Terms of Service
Before we start
These are the terms for using nawana, the app and the website at nawana.app. They're written the way one person talks to another, not the way a lawyer writes — but where something has to be exact, it is. By using nawana you agree to them. If you don't, that's fine; just don't use it.
nawana is made and run by Eunggyu Lee, operating as Dear RoRo (a sole proprietorship, Einzelunternehmen) in Munich, Germany. How we handle your data is in the Privacy Policy, which is part of the deal. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's standard licence terms apply to the download as well; these terms cover the service behind it.
What nawana is
nawana clones your voice once and lets you practise a language by talking with a fluent version of yourself. The person on the other end of every call is an AI. It sounds like you and is often right, but it is a model, not a teacher: it can misunderstand you, correct something that wasn't wrong, or say something untrue with confidence. Use your judgement, especially before repeating a "correction" in a job interview.
It's a small independent product. Features change, sometimes get removed, and the AI behind them is swapped for better ones as they appear. We'll tell you when a change matters.
Who can use it
- You must be 16 or older. Cloning a voice means processing biometric data, and 16 is the age of digital consent where we're established.
- One account per person, with details that are true. Sign-in is through Apple.
- You use it kindly and honestly — not to harass, harm, deceive, or impersonate anyone, and not to produce content that's illegal where you or we are.
Your voice
This is the part that matters most, so it's blunt.
- Only your own voice. The recording you make at setup must be you. Cloning anyone else — a friend, a celebrity, a family member, with or without their permission — is not allowed, and if we find a clone that isn't the account holder we will delete it and may close the account.
- The clone exists to speak your practice lines back to you. We don't use it for anything else, and neither may you: no putting words in your own cloned voice to deceive someone into thinking you said them.
- You consent to the cloning separately, on its own screen, before the microphone is ever opened. You can withdraw that consent and delete the clone at any time (Settings → Privacy). Deleting your account deletes it too.
Your content, and how you use the service
What you say in a call, the transcripts, the words you save, the scenes you write — that's yours. You give us the permission we need to process it so the app can work (transcribe it, rewrite it, speak it back), and nothing more. We don't sell it, we don't use it for ads, and we don't use it to train models.
Please don't:
- use nawana to generate abusive, hateful, sexual, or illegal content, or to plan harm;
- scrape, reverse-engineer, or attack the app or the servers behind it;
- drive it with scripts or bots, or share one account between people;
- resell access, or use nawana to build a competing service.
Find people
If you publish an introduction under Find people, four things from your profile — display name, occupation, location, interests — are listed for other learners of your language, and they can practise talking with an AI that plays your character. Your intro text itself is shown only to that AI. Nothing anyone says to "you" reaches you, and your voice is never used for it. You can edit or take the listing down at any time, and you must not publish anyone else's details as your own.
Subscriptions and payment
Cloning your voice and the first greeting are free. Talking and Watch scenes need a subscription. There are two plans, Light and Plus, each monthly or annual, and what each one includes — minutes of talk, number of scenes — is stated on the plan itself at the moment you pick it. That page is the offer; these terms don't restate numbers that may be tuned over time.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel any time; you keep what you paid for until the period ends, and nothing renews after that.
- Bought in the app — Apple bills you. Manage or cancel it under Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device, and ask Apple for refunds; we can't issue those ourselves.
- Bought on the website — Stripe bills you, we never see your card. Manage or cancel it from the link in your receipt or by writing to us.
- Free trial. Where offered, the trial is seven days, once per account. During the trial, talk is metered at the Light allowance whichever plan you're trying, so a week's sample can't spend a month. Cancel before it ends and you pay nothing.
- Prices are shown in your store's currency before you buy. If we change a price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies, and it never applies to a period you've already paid for. If you don't want the new price, cancel before it starts.
- Allowances are pools per billing period, spend them how you like; unused time doesn't carry over. Plus has no meter on talking. "No limit" is a promise to a person, not to a script: if an account's use looks automated we may pause it while we check, and we'll tell you if that happens.
- Invite minutes and other credits are a gift. They have no cash value, can't be paid out, and can be withdrawn if they were earned by gaming the system.
Cancelling a website purchase within 14 days
If you're a consumer and you subscribed on the website, you have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason. Email hello.dearroroapp@gmail.com saying you withdraw, from the address on your account, before the 14 days are up; a plain sentence is enough. We'll refund within 14 days of your message, by the means you paid with.
The service starts as soon as you subscribe, because you asked it to. If you withdraw after using it, we keep only the share of the price that matches the part of the period already used and refund the rest.
Purchases made in the app are Apple's contracts with you; their refund process applies, not this one.
What we don't promise
nawana is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running, but it depends on speech, voice and language providers we don't control, on Apple, and on the internet, and it will sometimes be down or wrong. We don't promise a specific outcome for your language, and nothing the app says is professional advice of any kind.
We're liable without limit for harm caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health. For ordinary negligence we're liable only where we've broken a duty the service can't work without, and then only for the loss that was foreseeable and typical for a product like this. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that the law doesn't let us limit.
Ending
You can leave whenever you like. Deleting your account (Me → Account → Delete account) removes your voice clone, your account record and your balance right away; a running subscription must be cancelled with Apple or through Stripe as above, or it keeps renewing to a deleted account.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — in particular one that cloned someone else's voice — and we'll say why unless the law stops us. If we ever shut nawana down, we'll give at least 30 days' notice and refund any period paid on the website that you couldn't use.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change affects you — something you pay for, something you can do — we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days ahead. If you keep using nawana after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, cancel before they start. Fixing a typo or clarifying a sentence doesn't need the 30 days.
Governing law
These terms are governed by German law. If you're a consumer, the mandatory protections of the country you live in still apply, and you can bring a claim there. The European Commission runs a platform for online dispute resolution at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr; we're not obliged to take part in proceedings before a consumer arbitration board, and we don't.
